Heading out

It is now the day before I begin my deployment and it has been a day of tying up loose ends. I have some last minute shopping to do and then finish packing and I'll be ready to go tomorrow morning at about 4:30.

Since these are the last few days I'll have in the US, I have been doing a couple things that will be out of the question in the months to come, like drinking beer and eating sushi. The last hurrah for my deployment partner,Ed, was to have some authentic mexican food.

The place we went to was really authentic, like no English on the menu and I had never heard of half of the stuff. It was alright though. Next stop is Nebraska and then off to the sandbox.

This is most likely the last cell phone post for a while, so if you have been reading this and I don't have much internet access I'll see you in a few months. Oh yeah, and hummer sex.

I Got a Name - Jim Croce

I heard this on the radio yesterday and was really reminded how I like this song. "Like a fool I am and I'll always be, I got a dream..."

Jay Z-Dead Presidents II

This is version II over the version I video. Part II is better in my opinion so I can put up with the choppiness. It's all about the music anyway. "I'm still spendin' money from '88!"

Blind Melon-Three is a magic number

As perfect a cover as you can get for the classic School House Rock! song

Erykah Badu-I want you (cube version)

A really incredible video to go with a really abbreviated version of the song. The album version clocks in at over ten minutes. This is really good, but almost seems to be over too quickly. One of my favorite soul singers that I would like to see live someday.

Talib Kweli - Around my way

Great song, with a little nod to the police (every little thing she does is magic) and featuring the great John Legend on the keys.

Faith Evans ft. P. Diddy - All Night Long

this is a good nod to lovely day done about ten years ago...

Lovely Day Bill Withers

There are unicorns, cotton candy, and then there's this song.

chappelle's show -tupac skit

Ahhh...the classics.

3 dog night-Shambala

The video was made by a person who was coked up and bored. But I like the song.

TERIYAKI BOYZ - I still love H.E.R. feat. KANYE WEST

These guys have some skills, it's not that often that you see English rap blend seamlessly with Japanese. Solid song.

Ken-Eld Och Djupa Vatten (Swedish Rap)

You can take this one of two ways, you either appreciate it as art or you laugh at it. Either way, this song can't be denied as something.

I first heard it in '99 when I was overseas in Sweden. I saw the video playing and kind of freaked out. I liked the beat, but the moped wasn't very hood and of course the lyrics were in Swedish. I still like to hear it from time to time even if I have no clue what it's about other than the title.

Eld och djupa vatten means "fire and deep water." I hope that clears things up for you.

Like 99 Luftballoons, you just kind of have to kick back and enjoy the texture of the song if not the lyrics.

Miri Ben-Ari On Apollo

This is how not to get booed at the Apollo.

Where I'm From (remix) video

The digable planets were one of those weird and wonderful by products of what could arguably called the golden age of hip hop (93-94). It's a group that I don't think would manage any air play in this day and age and that's a shame.

This is one of those remixes that puts the album version to shame. I remember buying the album after seeing this video and being pissed that the album version just didn't hold a candle. Good music for the time, though. And cool like dat is a good one, too.

PITCH BLACK / DJ PREMIER - ITS ALL REAL!

DJ Premier kills again!
Me likey.

Gang Starr- Above The Clouds

Gang Starr is one of those supergroups that just never seemed to get G-Unit big, but was always well respected and critically acclaimed.
